Hard anodizing
Hard anodizing is an electrochemical process that provides aluminum parts with a wear-resistant, electrically insulating oxide layer. This technique increases both the hardness and corrosion resistance of the surface and is ideal for applications in demanding industrial environments.
How Does the Process Work?
During anodizing, the aluminum part is immersed in an electrolytic bath, where an oxide layer is created by means of a controlled current supply. This results in a hard, porous layer that forms partly in the surface and partly on top of it.
- Layer thickness: 10–100 µm
- Hardness: up to 400 HV
- Insulating: the oxide layer is electrically non-conductive

Advantages
Wear-resistant & durable
Corrosion resistant
Electrically insulating and non-deforming
Aesthetically and functionally finishable
Additional advantage compared to other treatments
- No build-up of foreign layers: the oxide layer is part of the material
- No distortion due to low process temperature
- Natural compatibility with aluminum: no risk of delamination
Typical applications
- Aluminum machine parts
- High wear sliding surfaces
- Electronic components
- Aviation and aerospace
- Precision components in corrosive environments
